Kerry pupils win ASH Ireland prize at the
BT Young Scientists Exhibition
ASH Ireland offers sincere congratulations to Jerry Moran, Aoife Musgrave and Donie O' Sullivan, from Colaiste na Sceilge, Caherciveen, Co. Kerry who won the ASH Ireland prize at the BT Young Scientists Exhibition in Dublin last week. The project entitled ‘An investigation into a possible link between smoking and the inability to taste PTC’ is an excellent piece of scientific work and will be of interest well outside the confines of the exhibition. (PTC is a unique chemical which tests the strength of a person's bitter taste buds)
Dr Angie Browne, Chairperson of ASH Ireland said today, “This work by Aoife, Gerry and Donie is of a very high standard and deserves the highest praise. Essentially their work shows that it is possible to predict, by using this test, whether a person is or is not going to become a smoker. I also compliment the students school for their part in this – this kind of commitment from students rarely emerges without the support and encouragement of motivated teachers”
