The aim of this initiative is to protect children from passive smoking, discourage people from smoking in children’s environments, reduce role modelling by piers and make another small step in de-normalizing tobacco use.  Millenium Park Playground was specifically chosen as the site for this initiative because of the previous and on-going support given by the Dublin 15 community to the ‘Tobacco Free Campus’ at Connolly Hospital.

An attitudinal survey conducted in August 2010 confirmed local support with 88% of the 105 adult park users surveyed favouring such a move.

5th & 6th year students from local Primary Schools participated in a colouring competition to design a poster for the new sign which will be on permanent display at the playground following the launch on Friday.
