Professor Luke Clancy Appointed as Chairman ASH Ireland
Date: 20 June 2003
The Board of ASH Ireland recently appointed Professor Luke Clancy as Chairman. This will be Professor Clancy’s second term as Chairperson. He previously held the appointment from 1994 to 1998.
Professor Clancy is a Consultant Respiratory Physician at St. James’s Hospital and Medical Director of Peamount Hospital, Dublin.
Professor Clancy takes over from Dr. Fenton Howell who highlighted numerous issues in regard to the risks of smoking and passive smoking during his six-year term.
Professor Clancy speaking in Dublin today, “For the next six months ASH Ireland will concern itself with a single issue – ensuring sure that the Government proceed with an outright ban on smoking in the workplace. In the interests of saving lives, reducing health risks – and supporting the 70% of people who want this ban to go ahead – it is imperative that the Government proceed with this health initiative in its entirety”
Professor Clancy also said, “I want to take this opportunity to compliment Dr Fenton Howell on his Trojan work over the past six years as Chairperson. He has agreed to continue to work with ASH Ireland as a spokesperson and his ongoing contribution will be greatly valued”
